The Red Devils opened their season Saturday against Naperville North, Downers Grove South, Proviso East, and Queen of Peace. Despite the absence of a few athletes the Devils scored convincing victories on both the Frosh-Soph and Varsity levels. The Frosh-Soph scored 178 points, the most in Devil history.
The team goes thru a very challenging week as it competes first at Proviso West on Thursday and then at York on Saturday. These are crucial meets as they are the only time the Devils compete on a 200 meter track prior to conference.
The Proviso meet begins at 4:30, while the York meet begins at 10:00am. Hope to see you at both meets.
The Red Devils competed against Downers North, Proviso East, Metea, and Grayslake Central Saturday in a home meet. They saw some seasonal best on all levels.
We began the meet with Chelsea Celistan running 7.20 in the 55m. Meghan McDowell Long Jumped 16’4.25. Morgan Celistan broke a 6 year old record Triple Jumping 34’5. Stephanie Green High Jumped 5’2. Jude Wafai ran 63.0 in the 400. Kayla Schwarz ran 7.4 in the 55. Marissa Bronowicki ran 27.8 in the 200. The F/S 4x160 showed its speed running 1:29.3 which is faster than many varsity relays. New comer Laura Culler and Marissa Bronowicki both ran 7.6 in the 55 dash. Freshman Sheerin Fathizaden and Cara Tenerelli both high jumped 4’8 with Lucy Orton going 4’10. Both Tenerelli and freshman Emily Byczek are positioning themselves well in the hurdles. Paris Bates times continues to drop in the hurdles. Liz Dusky threw a big pr of 31’11.5 in the shot.
As the indoor season winds down our intensity ramps up. Our next meet is Saturday at home at 11:00 against WWS, NT, and Westingh. Hope to see you there.
The Red Devils competed Saturday against Wheaton, New Trier, and Westinghouse and were victorious on both levels. On the sophomore level several athletes achieved season best performances.
Maggie Wood , Lily Soros and Kate McElherne went 1-3 in the 300. In the 55HH Cara Tenerelli and Emily Byczek ran nearly identical times going 1-2. In the 55m Dash Laura Culler and Marissa Bronowicki went 1-2. Laura Culler, Marissa Bronowicki, Lauren Paul, and Cara Tenerelli won the 4 x 160m Relay. Allison Shaner won the 1600. Culler, Bronowicki, Paul, Layne McCabe, and Tenerelli went 1-5 in the 200. HC won the 4 x 400. Emma Harrison, Lucy Orton, Simi Akintorin, and Annie Zircher swept the long jump. Coco Bergdall and Julie Kanter went 1-2 in the triple jump. Orton won the high jump. Liz Dusky and Kelly Adams went 1-2 in the Shot.
On the varsity level several athletes stepped up in the absence of a few of their teammates. Kayla Schwartz won the 300. Chelsea Celistan won the 55. Rita Kuckertz won the 800 and Stephanie won the 400. Jill Hardies won the 1600. Lauren Roush and Chelsea Celistan went 1-2 in the 200. Meghan McDowell won the Long, Triple, and High Jumps. Jessie Vardas won the pole vault.
Our next meet is the indoor Devilette. The competition will be HOT. Div. 3A power Evanston as well as Div. 2A power Glenbard South, Argo Grayslake North will be there and we look to run some of the best times around. See you there.
The Red Devils closed out the indoor season in the same fashion that they opened it. They set new bench marks for outdoors, won both levels of the conference meet, and surprised even themselves with dominance in a few areas.
At the Devilette Inv. our 4 x 4 finally broke through and took down the fieldhouse record. Our 4 x 160 tied the record set last year.
At the conference meet the Red Devil scored the most points on both levels in their history. They broke 2 conference records, the f/s 4 x 200, and varsity 4x 200, by more than 2 seconds along the way. Of Note here the 4 x 200 leads the state by more than 2 seconds. We began the meet with a surprise victory from the 4 x 800 relay on both levels. We moved to the 300 where Genevieve Carter won f/s followed by Lauren Roush who won in school record FAT 41.60 time, with Stephanie Green taking 2nd. In a great race Jill Hardies and Hailey Krzyston took 2nd and 3rd in the 3200.
The 55HH proved to be just as exciting as freshmen Cara Tenerelli and Emily Byczek took 1st and 3rd on the f/s level. They were followed up by Paris Bates and Kira Byczek who ran career best and took 2nd and 3rd. In the 55m dash Laura Culler dominated, with Marisa Bronowicki garnering a 5th, while their varsity mates Chelsea Celistan and Monique Bronowicki went 1st and 3rd.
In the 400 Lily Sarros and Layne McCabe ran an exciting race to upset the York Duke at the line on the f/s level. In the Varsity race Stephanie Green dominated from start to finish and broke the school record winning in an FAT 59.62 seconds.
In the 1600 Maddie Kern took 3rd on f/s, while Graylin Harrison and Katie Kummerer took 4th and 5th. In the 200 Laura Culler showed her dominance winning by a full second. On varsity Kayla Schwarz and Lauren Roush went 2-3 in the 200. In the 4 x 4 f/s took 3rd while varsity took 5th.
In the field events Lucy Orton and Emma Harrison took 3rd and 4th in the f/s long jump. In varsity freshman Meghan McDowell took 3rd. In the triple jump Coco Bergdall and Morgan Celistan went 1-2 on f/s while Paris Bates went a career best on her last jump winning varsity, with Meghan Mc taking 4th. In shot put Liz Dusky and Kelly Adams took 2nd and 3rd on f/s while Adebelle Ekechukwu took 1st on varsity. On f/s level for high jump Lucy Orton took 3rd, while newcomer Steph Green took 2nd on Varsity. Emma Harrison and Mackenzie Cimala took 2nd and 3rd in pole vault on f/s with Jessie Vardas winning Varsity.
